Every once in awhile I need a little something sparkly. What I mean by sparkly is something that is pretty, attractive or naturally feminine. I naturally gravitate towards these things being a girl and all and I truly like beautiful things such as jewelry, clothes and pretty dishes. But on a normal day to day basis, living with two sporting boys I am usually surrounded by masculine, grungy and more often than not, very stinky items.
What's a girl to do? Well sometimes the feeling just completely over takes me and I find myself running to the craft store for stuff like this.
Jewelry supplies. I decided to make some stuff. Some sparkly stuff.
I started out very small. A tiny and very simple set of earring's.
I loved the end result and wanted to make one more pair. But I resisted and only made eight. I'm always making an attempt at being minimal. Not that it ever really works for me. But I try. And that's what matters right?
The pink pair really had me swooning. Pretty in Pink for sure.
Then I decided a week or so later, (I think it was a Thursday) that I really love bracelets and made the executive decision to make one of those also.
Except I think I went a little advanced for my particular skill level in jewelry and attempted this little bauble.
A three strand bracelet. I found one similar in a book and thought it would be pretty in the gold and brown hues of the beads here above. But again I just forgot to take into consideration the difficulty level of a three strand bracelet especially with me being a first time jewelry maker and all.
It wasn't easy.
I had to twist and turn and wiggle to get the beads strung. And that was just my upper body.
Eventually I had to hold one end of the bracelet between my legs just to string the rest of the beads and get the darn thing finished. I believe they have tool's or boards or something like that to hold what your working on but of course I wouldn't know anything about that. Cause I've never done this before. But who would want to stop and think about that sort of thing before starting a project? Not me apparently.
The final result... a pretty little piece that I have worn proudly several times and will continue to do so.
I think I will continue to make more jewelry pieces. Its a refreshing process. Really it is. Despite the inevitable frustrations. And it's a nice little break from washing smelly skateboard knee pads.
I highly recommend it. Give it a try sometime.
Also I am enjoying these picture mosaics I am making over at big huge labs.
Try those also.
Over and out.
